Setup Desktop AR system

This page is the first of 4 steps to the Get Started guide for the Holo-SDK. See Get Started for the overview of required steps.

Begin a Desktop AR Setup

In a nutshell, a Desktop AR system creates holographic experience by rendering 3D images according to user's viewing positions (see How DesktopAR Works for more detail). To start setting up a Desktop AR system, follow the below steps.

  1. Prepare a computer or laptop, most modern computers running Window 10 is compatible with Holo-SDK. For older computers, check minimum requirement. It is also recommended that your computer have a GPU.

  2. Have a webcam installed, it can be a webcam that comes with your laptop or you can plug in an external webcam, and place the webcam on top of your monitor.

  3. Get Anaglyph glasses (Red & Blue 3D Glasses), you need a pair of red and blue glasses to use with your monitor when displaying the 3D effect in the anaglyph mode. You can buy the glasses from Amazon or from most online shopping websites. For other types of display that can be used a the Desktop AR system, see Displays.

Watch the video below to see how to set up a Desktop AR system using only 1 dollar (One dollar is for red & blue 3D glasses).

Download and install Holo-SDK on your computer

Now that you have the necessary tools, let's continue to setup the software components of the Desktop AR system.

  1. Go to www.Holo-SDK.com and download the Holo-SDK zip file.

  2. Unzip the downloaded file and place the folder HoloSDK in drive C:. If you previously downloaded a sample Holo-APP from the website, you will find that the Holo-SDK folder has already been installed on your computer.

Now that you have the hardware and software components, you are ready to move on to the next step, which is to get a free Holo-SDK license for your first project.
